The African Lion

Wildlife Series:
The third installment in the Wildlife series is a portrait painting of the majestic male African Lion. As the largest of the African cats, the lion enters adulthood with the growth of its mane. The larger the mane, the more verile the lion appears to the members of the opposite sex, and more threatening to other lions and predators. The lion is king and he knows it. An air of confidance yet a touch of sadness fills his eyes as he knows that coming soon he will be challenged for his place and status as the leader of the pride.

This work is done in the fine detailed pen&ink pointillism or stipple technique. A more major attempt at the fine detail to portray the longer hair of the mane. One of the things I like about the pointillism technique is that you can put in a lot of detail without muddying the picture and losing its focus.
